Consumer requirements for safe food make it necessary for Food Business Organizations (FBOs) have a system self- assessment that ensures production of safe French beans and snow peas. This Self-Assessment Guide (SAG) covers the whole value chain of the two crops.


The self-assessment system is a set of measures that the producers/food business organizations (FBOs) should take to ensure that the products, French beans and snow peas at all stages of production, harvesting, transport, packaging, processing and distribution fulfil:
• Regulatory food safety requirements
• Traceability and surveillance requirements
• Markets and quality and safety private standards
All these are expected to happen when there is internal and external verification system; each operator verifies own practices at all stages with regard to compliance to requirements; verification identifies any dysfunctional processes and noncompliance at each step and finally compliance proves that food safety requirements are met.
The scope and purpose of the SAG is to provide actors of government/private sector in the French bean and snow peas value chains with a guide to support operations that ensure safety and quality of products.
